The Unconventional Side Of Storytelling

Every single one of us has a unique story. That story is shaped by everyone and everything that we come into contact with over our lives.

As the Creative Director at Still Frame Storytelling, my journey is no different. I thought I would share a little bit more about where my passion for storytelling comes from, and how that passion saturates every single project that we undertake as a company.

Storytelling is a remarkably sophisticated art that transcends culture and is universally one of the longest-standing means by which any individual has expressed their deepest thoughts, beliefs, and passions.

As technology has continued to evolve over the past several years and marketing has made a great migration from primarily print media to the ever-evolving space of the digital landscape, I have found that our client’s stories have become even more compelling (yet often times more fragmented) as a result.

I have often asked myself, why this is, and I will share with you my thoughts on that: as the sheer amount of influences has increased, so too has the “individuals” level of personal sophistication. These additional layers in our stories (whether they be an obsession for croquet fueled by local facebook enthusiasts or the realms of home-crafts and DIY fueled by ETSY) are connecting people all over the world with like-minded individuals that share their interests. This sort of environment is creating new opportunities for buyers and sellers of goods and services to not just “sell” their goods, but rather to “connect” with others through their stories and brand.

I grew up in a family that was deeply involved in an international missions organization called YWAM, and over the course of my first 20 years of life, my family and I moved more than 23 times.

Having spent time in New Zealand, Hawaii, Canada, China, Norway, France, and all across the United States has deeply grown my personal sense of “story” as I have seen the commonalities between cultures and how their stories (although steeped in many different heritages and traditions) often come back to an intrinsic sense of longing to belong.

As a world traveler at a very young age, the concept of the “story” as being the real underlying thing that gives us that sense of belonging began to shape my early years as a creative.

I originally started my career as a creative studying music composition at Belhaven University in Jackson Mississippi. After having only completed my freshman year of high school, I enrolled as a part-time student at Belhaven and began to supplement my high school coursework entirely for university-level education. This had a great deal of impact on me, as I skipped a lot of the drama that high school often introduces into a young person’s life.

Music composition, being my focus, influenced every preconceived notion that I had regarding my own creativity. I saw how the greatest works of art came out of an environment of collaborative play, rather than from an environment of individualism. Think of every great orchestra that you have heard, think of every great dance piece you have seen, think of the many hands that were required in erecting some of the most prestigious structures across the world. They are all collaborations, ultimately, at their core.

I have taken these same insights into Still Frame Storytelling as my team works with the many-faced art of storytelling. We don’t just state the facts, giving an impassive cold delivery.

Instead, we get to know who you are from the ground up and take that knowledge and begin to weave it into the complicated tapestry of your online identity.

As our team has grown, so have our clients, and we are continuing to connect with the best and brightest minds in our industry to increase our offerings and give even greater depth to our robust offerings. We would love to talk with you about how we can help you to tell your story online, get to know you, and start the process of breaking into new opportunities for you.
